Central heating systemLimit one unit; additional-unit coverage available
Covered
Electric, gas and hot water systems that are the home's primary heating source, including centrally ducted gas or electric units and boilers. Covered components include the heating element, heat exchanger (buyer coverage only), burners, gas valves, baseboard convectors, pumps, motors, switches, thermostat, relays, accessible ductwork and wiring.
Not covered
Oil-burning units, space heaters, inaccessible ductwork, registers, grills, filters, oil storage tanks, solar or geothermal systems and components, radiators, clocks, chimneys and liners, fireplaces, digital equipment, fuel storage tanks, baseboard casings, energy-management systems, wood-burning stoves, and freestanding, portable or through-wall units.
Coverage limit: $3,000 for units less than 20 years old; otherwise $500. Older-unit coverage is limited to the first year. Premium Warranty removes the age restriction.
Plumbing system
Covered
Leaks and breaks in water, drain, vent or sewer lines; shower valves; tub diverters; faucets; toilet tank assemblies; and vent and sewer lines.
Not covered
Water damage, corrosion, main drain clogs, sinks, bathtubs, toilet tanks and bowls, shower base pans, tub enclosures, tile fields, leach beds, sewage ejectors, grouting, caulking, tile, lawn sprinklers, mineral deposits, porcelain, storage or holding tanks, water quality, lines outside the home's main foundation, tree roots, water pressure, galvanized plumbing, freezing damage, insufficient capacity, and plumbing in or under a cement slab or basement floor. The water heater is a separate coverage item.

Covered
Wiring, breakers, panels, switches, fuses, conduit, junction boxes and receptacles.
Not covered
Meter boxes, service-entrance cables, inaccessible or underground wiring, insufficient capacity, systems or wiring outside the home's main foundation, and damage from water, overload, power failure, lightning or a power surge.
Coverage limit: $1,000.

Oil-fired water heaters, insufficient capacity, rusted-out tanks, and mineral or chemical deposits.

Motors, controls, bearings, blades and switches.

Circulation or paddle fans, belts, shutters, whole-house fans and filters.

Burners, wiring elements, switches, thermostats, pilot assemblies, doors and hinges, and self-cleaning mechanisms.

Clocks, meat-probe assemblies, rotisseries, racks, shelves, handles and knobs. Appliances that are not part of the sales contract are not covered.

Kitchen dishwasher

Built-in dishwashers only, including the motor, pump, timers, seals, gaskets, latches, heating elements, switches and air-gap spray arm.

Natural-gas air-conditioning units, filters, water-cooled units, freestanding, portable or through-wall units, refrigerant recovery, energy-management systems, condenser fins, drain pans, cleaning and pads.

Block walls, crawl spaces, structural damage such as bowing or sagging walls, horizontal cracks, cracks wider than 1/4 inch, hydrostatic pressure, leaks at the cove where the wall and floor meet, sewer backups or blockages, floods, humidity-related condensation, damp spots or discoloration, grading issues and drain tiles.
Important limitation
Gold Shield must have full, unobstructed access to walls and floors. Drywall, paneling, flooring and concealed wiring, gas or water lines are not included. Coverage is void if basement walls or floors have been altered or tampered with.
